40 Eridani A
[01] Star Trek Federation Canon History
Birthplace of logic, Surak's philosophy, and Ambassador Spock; home to the Vulcan Science Academy; origin point of modern warp diplomacy with humanity; central world of the Federation.
SYSTEM WORLDS & HABITABILITY CLASSIFICATION:
40 Eridani A-II (Vulcan) is a harsh, arid Class M planet with higher gravity (1.4g) and thinner atmosphere than Earth. Features the Vulcan Science Academy, Mount Seleya, and the Forge.
[02] Empirical Astronomical Specifications
A hierarchical triple star system. 40 Eridani A is a quiet K1 V orange dwarf orbited at 400 AU by a binary pair consisting of a white dwarf (40 Eridani B) and a red dwarf flare star (40 Eridani C). Gene Roddenberry and Harvard-Smithsonian astronomers officially designated 40 Eridani A as Vulcan in 1991.
REAL CONFIRMED EXOPLANETS & DEBRIS DISKS:
40 Eridani b (HD 26965 b) was identified in 2018 as a super-Earth candidate (~8.4 Earth masses, 42-day orbital period); recent spectroscopic debates continue over stellar magnetic activity vs Keplerian orbit.
